BEGET
BEGET is an audacious feature film told in vignettes and portraits similar to parables and books from religious texts; that reimagines the foundations of human existence through the lens of queer reproduction. Written and directed by John Tedeschi, this thought-provoking narrative hypothesizes a world where God envisioned partnerships beyond the heterosexual. It creatively posits that if the innate corruption stemmed from humanity’s deviation from their true identities, the fabric of history as we know it would be unrecognizable. As this intriguing story unfolds, viewers are invited to contemplate how different relationships could reshape societal constructs and challenge preconceived notions of family and reproduction. BEGET promises to provoke discussion and inspire reflection on the narratives that define us.
A BOOK BY THEIR COVER
A Book by Their Cover is a short film by Stockbridge, MA filmmaker John Tedeschi, inspired by local controversies over LGBTQIA+ books in schools, focusing on a tween girl discovering her identity through a book and facing community backlash, highlighting themes of self-discovery and acceptance, especially after the Gender Queer book incident in Great Barrington.
Bilal is a queer, gender-nonconforming youth whose sensitivity and love of dance mark them as different in a world that demands conformity. At school, bullying follows them through loud hallways; at home, family pressure insists they abandon movement, grace, and feminine expression. Isolated and misunderstood, Bilal retreats inward, carrying fear, shame, and longing in silence.
Dance becomes Bilal’s refuge and rebellion. With each step, the ghungroo around their ankles sound a language of survival—rhythm turning pain into resolve. In stolen moments of practice, Bilal begins to reclaim their body as a site of truth rather than punishment. The music grows, and so does their courage.
Through intimate sound design and fluid camerawork, the film immerses us in Bilal’s inner world, capturing loneliness, resilience, and emergence. ANKLE BELLS (GHUNGROO) is a lyrical portrait of queer self-discovery, where art becomes voice, resistance, and the first step toward belonging and personal freedom.
